Soldiers of the GSSC, GSB, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) of the U.S. Army, currently deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom - Philippines, will receive 18 boxes full of Christmas goodies from the attorneys and staff of Burford & Ryburn, L.L.P., a law firm with offices in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. "These gifts are our way of saying 'thank you' for everything they do for us. Hopefully, this will make spending Christmas, or Hanukah and the New Year in a foreign land feel a bit more like home," said Emanuela Prister, attorney at Burford & Ryburn, L.L.P. Packages of beef jerky, deflated soccer balls with pumps, shampoo, snacks of every sort, books, magazines, and hats are just a few of the items that stuffed the boxes packed by the attorneys and staff. Prister, who organized the project for the firm for the second year, said: "This was an especially fun project because everyone in the firm was so willing to pitch in and help. Each person was able to do a little something which allowed this to come together." Last year the firm sent similar gift boxes to the U.S. Marines stationed in Fallujah, Iraq. The Marines were so appreciative of the gifts that they sent the firm an American flag flown over their headquarters in Fallujah. The flag and certificate are now framed in the firm's Dallas office. In addition, Michele Sheets, an attorney with Burford & Ryburn, L.L.P., received an e-mail from a member of the 2d Reconnaissance Battalion that explained that the soccer balls made a direct contribution to their mission and they came at the right time, when they were really needed. The e-mail stated that the packages reminded them of home and the blessings of home. The boxes this year are also stuffed with the most popular items from last year - lip balm, soccer balls, and beanie babies. "Our contributions and work will let the soldiers of the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) know that we truly appreciate their sacrifice and efforts," said David Weaver, attorney with Burford & Ryburn,L.L.P. "Those who have served in the military overseas or with family or friends serving in the military overseas keenly understand the importance of being remembered during the holidays." The troops of the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) will have presents this Christmas. "This was an immensely rewarding activity for everyone involved. We wish all of our men and women in uniform around the world a safe and happy holiday," said Prister. De Opresso Liber is on the crest and is the motto of the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). It roughly translates, "liberate the oppressed."
