John Preston Baker has become a partner with Burford & Ryburn, L.L.P.

John Preston Baker has been made partner with Burford & Ryburn, L.L.P.  Since beginning at Burford & Ryburn, L. L.P., Mr. Baker has practiced eminent domain law throughout Texas.  He represents both condemning entities and landowners in many different types of eminent domain cases, including takings for pipelines, power lines, roadways, and other projects.  He also represents clients in real property disputes and general litigation matters.   In 2007 and 2008, Mr. Baker was recognized as a Texas Rising Star by Law & Politics and published in Texas Monthly magazine, Texas Super Lawyers - Rising Star Edition.

Mr. Baker recently spoke on Eminent Domain - Oil & Gas Industry Issues, presented at The Center for American and International Law's Annual Program on Planning, Zoning, and Eminent Domain.  Other topics covered by Baker in presentations for Lorman Education Services, CLE Seminar Series are Procedural Issues in Eminent Domain, Eminent Domain for Attorneys, Overview of Easements and How Easements are Created.

Mr. Baker received his J.D. from Southern Methodist School of Law.  At SMU, Mr. Baker was a staff editor for the Computer Law Review and Technology Journal.  He was also the President of the SMU Board of Advocates and was awarded the Outstanding Advocate of the Year Award during his final year of law school.

Mr. Baker remains active in the SMU Moot Court program.  He has coached numerous moot court teams to success in national competitions, including two national champion teams and five finalist teams.  In 2006, Mr. Baker was named Coach of the year by SMU Law School's Board of Advocates.

Before joining Burford & Ryburn, L.L.P., Mr. Baker was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Elizabeth Lang-Miers of the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals.
